Seán McNeela was born in Ballycroy, Co. Mayo.
McNeela was sentenced to two years for "conspiracy to usurp a function of Government" by operating a pirate radio station. After 55 days on hunger strike, Seán McNeela died on 19th April, 1940 in Arbour Hill Military Detention Barracks, Dublin.
