Mayo Sinn Féin Sinn Féin -- Building an Ireland of Equals

Rural Regeneration meeting in Westport

21 November, 2006

Sinn Féin general election candidate in Mayo, Councillor Gerry Murray has pledged his party's resources to addressing the years of neglect that Mayo has suffered at the hands of the established parties.

Announcing further details of his party's campaign on Rural Regeneration entitled, Addressing the Neglect, Councillor Murray was adamant that the underdeveloped condition Mayo now finds itself in relation to the county's transport network, energy infrastructure and job creation prospects is not just the work of Fianna Fáil or the PDs.

"This neglect of the West is not new and blame must also lie at the doors of Fine Gael and the Labour Party. Since the 1980s, Fine Gael has been in government three times and Labour, four times yet Mayo remains underdeveloped. We in Sinn Féin are ready to grasp this nettle and push for a fair deal for Mayo" - Councillor Murray.
