Campbell - proper maintenacne of estates essential

Published: 5 March, 2006

Sinn Féin town councillor Noel Campbell has insisted that housing estate repairs undertaken by Castlebar Town Council should be completed before the council moves on to their next job. Councillor Campbell was speaking about Fortfield estate where work done on the estate will not be completed until after the summer of this year but said that other estates have found themselves in the same position. Councillor Campbell said, "in many instances it is a case of a lack of funding but it is my belief that if the council prioritises its spending, money would be there. During the council's budget meeting for 2006 I proposed a saving of almost 12,000 euro on councillor's foreign travel and conference expenses but unfortunately the majority of my council colleagues did not support me. That money could have gone to works such as Fortfield."
