Published: 11 October, 2006

The Sinn Féin party in Mayo has outlined details of the extension to its healthcare campaign in the county. The campaign began last June with the launch of the party's All-Ireland healthcare policy document 'Healthcare in an Ireland of Equals' in Castlebar by Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams MP.

During his visit, Mr. Adams and Sinn Féin's general election candidate in Mayo, Councillor Gerry Murray met with local and national groups involved in the health sector to hear their experiences of working on the front line of such a demanding sector and to take feedback on the Sinn Féin document.

Sinn Féin has announced that it will be holding public meetings on all aspects of healthcare, which will be attended by party representatives, Councillor Gerry Murray and Rose Conway-Walsh. The first public meeting will take place in Gannon's Hotel, Ballinrobe at 8pm on Wednesday 18th October and will be followed by a public meeting in The Dalton Inn Hotel, Claremorris at 8pm on Wednesday 25th October.

Speaking about his party's campaign arrangements, Councillor Gerry Murray said, "Healthcare is set to be a major issue for the public in the upcoming general election. Sinn Féin have dedicated a lot of time to putting together a forward thinking and radical approach to the health system in our latest healthcare document. The meetings now organised are opportunities for the public to ask questions and make comments on Sinn Féin's approach to healthcare and will coincide with the 'Demand your Healthcare Rights' rally in Dublin on 21st October which is set to attract thousands of people who are very concerned about the dire state of our healthcare system."
