The decision of the Minister for Education, Mary Hanafin TD to again renege on her Department's commitments to provide a sports hall for Davitt College in Castlebar has been described by Councillor Noel Campbell as "not only damaging to the students of the college but it is also a missed opportunity for the town." A motion submitted to the council's March monthly meeting by Sinn Féin councillor Noel Campbell called on Castlebar Town Council to support Mayo County Council's decision to commemorate the event.
