Sinn Féin County Councillor Gerry Murray has welcomed what he described as a "u turn" by Agriculture Minister Mary Coughlan on the issue of the importation of Brazilian beef into the EU. Last week the Minister said that she had requested Health Commissioner Kyprianou to impose restrictions on the imports. Read full article

A discussion on the threat to cancer services at Mayo General Hospital will form part of the agenda at a joint meeting between Castlebar Town councillors and the Castlebar Area councillors of Mayo County Council set to take place at the end of January. Read full article

Speaking on Ireland's signing of the Lisbon Treaty along with other EU Heads of State this week Sinn Féin councillor Noel Campbell said; "Whilst the need for Ireland to have its place at the EU table is obvious, we must use that place positively. Our international reputation is not so fragile that we must always act as 'yes men' to preserve it even when so obviously the best course of action is to say no." Read full article
