Recent government budget cutbacks have ended the funding of the transition year programme as well as others such as the Leaving Cert Applied Programme (LCA). Sinn Féin candidate, Thérèse Ruane, is calling on Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe to reverse this decision in the interest of our young people and education. Read full article

Sinn Féin County Councillor Gerry Murray has said that the Ernie O'Malley memorial on the mall in Castlebar should not be moved from its present location. Cllr. Murray said he was extremely disappointed to hear Castlebar Mayor Kevin Guthrie suggest that this memorial should be removed from the Mall and located at Lough Lannagh. Read full article

I welcome the recent report produced by COSC. My long held belief is that until domestic abuse is treated as the harrowing crime it is we are not going anywhere. We need to face up to the fact that it is not treated as a crime never mind a serious crime that leads to people being tortured in their own homes day in day out. Read full article

The membership of Mayo Sinn Féin has unanimously ratified their team to contend the County Council elections next June. The party's local election convention held in Castlebar today also endorsed their candidate to contest the Castlebar Town Council elections. Read full article

Sinn Féin councillor Noel Campbell addressed Castlebar Town Council for the last time last night. The council's January monthly meeting was Councillor Campbell's last meeting as his resignation comes in to effect. Read full article
