Sinn Féin Councillor Therese Ruane has warned that any cut to the minimum wage would create severe hardship for low paid workers and must be opposed. She said such a move would force more families to rely on supplementary welfare assistance from the state and would have knock on impacts on across the local economy. Cllr. Ruane will be seeking the support of her colleagues on Castlebar Town Council at next Thursday's meeting for a motion, she has tabled insisting that there be no reduction in the minimum wage. Organic Community Garden in Castlebar
The first Organic Community Garden in Castlebar is up and running. Volunteers working on this project are seeking donations of gardening tools, plants and equipment such as shed, water storage, benches, etc from individuals or businesses in the Castlebar area. A number of businesses have been contaced and have already indicated their approval for donations to this worthwhile project. Read full article

More than 100 people attended a Solidarity Vigil with Palestine and the Gaza Freedom Flotilla in Castlebar on Tuesday last organised by Mayo Sinn Féin. The families of Derek and Jenny Graham from Ballina, Co. Mayo received a warm welcome and messages of support for the safe passage to Gaza of the MV Rachel Corrie to deliver its vital humanitarian supplies. Read full article
