Belmullet
Rose Conway-Walsh. Rose Conway-Walsh, who is originally from Ballycroy, lives in Drum near Belmullet with her husband Noel and two young sons, Anthony and Peter. Rose works full time in Community Development, co-ordinating Iorras Le Chéile Community Development Project for the past 6 years. Previous to that she worked with South West Mayo Development Company for 5 years. In the UK she held senior positions in the public and private sector.
Rose holds a BA (Hons.) in Public Management and is completing a a Masters in Local Government Management. She has qualifications in Human Rights, Training and Education and Information Technology. She also has substantial training and experience in Influencing Policy, Domestic Violence, Applied Suicide Information Skills, Gender Equality and many other areas.
She is a strong advocate of Human Rights including gender equality. She is founder of the Sinn Féin Mayo Women's Movement which provides a dynamic environment for republican women in Mayo to meet, discuss, explore, debate and take action on issues that were first documented in the 1916 Proclamation.
A passionate belief in equality, human rights, and fair representation underpins Rose's vision for the whole of this electoral area. Her vision for this constituency is based on social justice for all the people living here, a region that recognises that each person matters and that each person has a right to have a meaningful say in matters that affect the quality of his/her life. On a daily basis, Rose see's the adverse effects on people in our community of poor Government policy - such as inadequate services for children, scarcity of health care provision, lack of sewerage and water provision, absence of real sustainable jobs and erosion of farming and fishing. The Government's neglect of this rural constituency has got to be challenged as a matter of great urgency. We need to set aside the civil war politics that has facilitated this neglect by successive governments. It's time to give Sinn Fein a chance - what have we got to lose?
Rose's belief that all people should have basic human rights and equality has encouraged her to contest the next local election to try to make a real difference to the lives of the people she will represent. She promises to provide the strong transformational leadership that has never been more important for the development of the area. She works towards an alternative vision and challenges the injustices that have been allowed to exist at many levels in our communities. With your vote Rose will represent men, women and children throughout this constituency, in a coherent and articulate manner ensuring growth and equality. This is your opportunity for positive change - we deserve economic growth that will bring employment, improved standards of living, better infrastructure and public services.
